I had yet another brain cramp and wasted a couple of hours. Yesterday I was trying the "NET USE LPT1: \\printserv\clinica /PERSISTENT:YES" command on the wrong printer! (I hate Mondays) Anyway I tried it again this morning to the printer in the correct clinic and it actually worked!! so, sorry to drag you all into this. I revised the autoexec.bat file in an attempt to replace the LPT1 command line with USB, but I know enough to be dangerous. Printfil ALMOST worked, but the fonts from the program were still not being sent to the printer. I have to make a confession of stupidity. It was at that point I was directed to use DOSBOX and Printfil (2017). The software would not run on NT at all, so Windows 98 was as far as they could go (technically they probably could have used ME, but that wouldn't really be an upgrade).ĭo you know of any software that simulates the dial readings of a custom built materiel leveler depending on the dimensions and characteristics of the material being ran through it? What you're avoiding is getting stuck in a corner, I worked with a company that in 2010 still used Windows 98 because it was the only OS that worked with their in-house work-order system. The cost of the software, migrating the data, and training the users, while high, is generally recouped with increased productivity gained from the new system, and from the ability to run on better hardware. I helped many companies ditch legacy in-house software after Windows 7 came out, it's absolutely possible. There has to be some program that can replace the software either in full or the majority of itĪnother company has likely made a similar product for years.

You now have software holding back your upgrade options, you'll be locked into software until it's EOL, and then locked into hardware as you're unable to purchase new hardware with the OS you need.

Seriously look into replacing the software, if it doesn't work in 7 it won't work in 8, or 9 etc.

#LPT1 TO CONVERTER SERIAL#
Notice that the signals on the serial port are DIFFERENT, you can NOT just connect wires and make a serial port act as a parallel port.Ok, i totally misread that as this application running within MS-DOS, the only thing i have to add to everyone's comments: Pin No (D-Type 25) Pin No (Centronics) SPP Signal Direction In/out Register Hardware Invertedġ7 36 nSelect-Printer / nSelect-In In/Out Control Yesģ TxD Transmit Data -» Transmits bytes out of PCĢ RxD Receive Data «- Receives bytes into PCħ RTS Request To Send -» RTS/CTS flow controlĨ CTS Clear To Send «- RTS/CTS flow controlĦ DSR Data Set Ready «- I'm ready to communicateĤ DTR Data Terminal Ready -» I'm ready to communicateġ DCD Data Carrier Detect «- Modem connected to anotherĩ RI Ring Indicator «- Telephone line ringing Here is the pin out of a parallel port, notice that there are more than 9 lines: I also recommend that you test your printer on another PC. If you disconnect the printer from the computer and print a test page how does the test page look? (push the button on the printer to print the test page)
#LPT1 TO CONVERTER DRIVER#
The options in the driver are there for every printer, that does not mean that they will always work.Īt one point you could buy serial to parallel converter boxes, with those you would attach a serial cable to a PC and run it across a room to a converter near the printer, the serial cable would puug in to the converter, the electronic circuitry in the converter would convert the data to the parallel format, a parallel cable would go from the converter to the printer. The 6L has the large Centronics connector on the printer, that will work with the USB to parallel converters you can buy.

#LPT1 TO CONVERTER INSTALL#
The software that came with the scanner should install this driver. then go to properties), under SCSI Controllers you should have an entry for a Parallel Host Adapter. Description: The SAM E54 high performance micro-controller series features a 32-bit ARM® Cortex®-M4 processor with Floating Point Unit (FPU), running up to 120 MHz ,up to 1 MB Dual Panel Flash with ECC, and up to 256 KB of SRAM with ECC. You can buy a USB to Parallel adapter, it has circuits in it to convert the serial data to parallel data. In SETUP (Delete Key at bootup), your LPT1 must be set to ECP. You can NOT make a home cable to convert a serial port to a parallel port.
